Challenged Expedition 2019

As a Tourism, Travel and Hospitality, Event Management and Organizing Social Enterprise, the motivation or inspiration to conceptualize, develop and introduce “Challenged Expedition”, emanated from the organization’s deep rooted passions, zeal, enthusiasm and commitments to help bring into national/international limelight, focus and attention some of the critical issues affecting Persons with Special Needs/Disabilities, Reduced Mobility or Physically Challenged within Ghana through the strategic industry of Tourism, Travel and Hospitality.

All the research, analysis and implementation guidelines done was to develop a program in line with the organization’s deep rooted beliefs and convictions in a cherished typical age-old Ghanaian charitable, philanthropic, social, cultural, humanitarian and economic development perspective, goodwill, generosity, compassionate and benevolence practices and ideals, that amplifies community sharing and inter-dependency.

Persons with Special Needs/Disabilities, Reduced Mobility or Physically Challenged are among the poorest, needy, vulnerable, marginalized, underprivileged, deprived and minority groups in Ghana. They are often taken for granted segment within communities and society. And unfortunately, are predominantly confined to the periphery of economic, social, political, cultural, community, societal and developmental structures. Not surprisingly, this group faces enormous diverse human/minority rights challenges, difficulties and/or barriers within Ghana.

These challenges, difficulties and/or barriers include and not limited to the extremely pathetic mobility, buildings, transportation, spaces, other facilities, amenities and infrastructure including and in particular tourist sites, attractions, locations and other places of interest accessibility. Extreme poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to job/employment opportunities, education, health care and medical services. Extreme forms of domestic, marital/relationships violence and abuse. Sexual molestation, exploitation and rape. Others are social, cultural, economic and political exclusion/injustice. Lack of opportunities for self-actualization, determination and development. Uncomplimentary prejudices, stereotypes, glass ceilings and tokenism. Inequality, alienation, discrimination, bullying and victimization.

The annual “Challenged Expedition” is a purposeful charity, humanitarian and philanthropic educational, leisure, recreation, outdoor, sightseeing, excursion, social, intercultural, entertainment, sports, active and healthy living and lifestyles field trip/tour organized by the Social Enterprise (SE), Kra Integrated Solutions (Krinsol Ecotours) for Persons with Special Needs/Disabilities, Reduced Mobility or Physically Challenged free of charge. These are a very critical group who unfortunately, are often taken for granted segment of society and predominantly confined to the periphery of economic, social, cultural, community, societal and developmental structures.

This event was developed and rolled under Kra Integrated Solutions' (Krinsol Ecotours') “Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta” initiative. The "Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta" initiative is a philanthropic and charitable social inclusion, diversity management, inter-personal, cultural and community engagement initiative under the organization’s people, community centered and inspired "Neighborhoods Empowerment and Sustainable Transformation (NEST)" project.

Thematically, the “Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta” initiative aims at periodically organizing and offering charitable and philanthropic events, programs and activities for grassroots, poor, needy, vulnerable, underprivileged, marginalized, minority and deprived people, groups and communities. The direct beneficiaries of such events, activities and programs are Children, Youth, Seniors (Elderly), and in particular, Persons with Special Needs/Disabilities, Reduced Mobility or Physically Challenged.

Last year, on December 15th, 2018, we organized, launched and hosted the maiden annual “Challenged Expedition 2018”.

Thirty (30) Persons with Special Needs/Disabilities, Reduced Mobility or Physically Challenged who benefited from the maiden event, were taken on a purposeful educational, leisure, recreation, outdoor, sightseeing, excursion, social, intercultural, entertainment, sports, active and healthy living and lifestyles field trip to two of Ghana's premium tourist sites, attractions and places of interest, the Kakum National Conservation Park and Cape Coast Castle. All expenses pertaining to this event was fully paid for by Kra Integrated Solutions (Krinsol Ecotours). This year, we are focused to substantially increase the number of beneficiaries for “Challenged Expedition 2019”.

These beneficiaries were selected or invited from the Greater Accra Region and Kasoa Township and its catchment areas within the Ewutu Senya East Municipal Authority in the Central Region of Ghana. The selection or invitation was conducted through the Ghana Federation for the Disabled (GFD) and other relevant stakeholders.

Henceforth, the "Challenged Expedition" will be organized and hosted annually on World Tourism Day as part of Kra Integrated Solutions' (Krinsol Ecotours') activities, events and programs to celebrate United Nations World Tourism Day.

The second edition “Challenged Expedition 2019” will take place on World Tourism DaySeptember 27th, 2019 with a visit to the magnificent Boti Falls near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
