Challenged Expedition 2019

An individual can never, and ever feasibly make any distinction in changing intrinsically intertwined pervasive, endemic, emerging and/or systemic challenges, difficulties, barriers, issues and/or situations alone. What creates the changes, distinctions, and the greatest success in this regard. Can only be achieved or accomplished at the intersection of diverse and collective efforts, capacity, mindsets, attitudes, mastery, passions, zeal, enthusiasm, commitments and responsibility of individuals.

At that very trajectory and convergent point where purpose, dreams, visions, missions, core values, goals, objectives, targets and responsibilities reinforces and/or legitimize one another. And more importantly, at the zenith of it all, shared challenges, difficulties, barriers, issues and situations, aspirations, commonalities and like-minds crystallizes, incentivizes, underpins and leverage an urgent need for a sense of unity and purpose. Into the present and future of a sustainable common good.

Which leverages transformational, radical and fundamental paradigm shift. That creates, illuminates and amplifies formidable visible changes and distinctions. And indeed, all the changes and distinctions within various communities, society and the world at large.

One of such instances, events, projects or programs that strives to harness the collective efforts, capacity, mindsets, attitudes, mastery, passions, zeal, enthusiasm, commitments, responsibility and resources of individuals, organizations, institutions, agencies and groups. For a present and future sustainable common good, is the annual “Challenged Expedition“.

The annual “Challenged Expedition”, is a purposeful educational, leisure, recreation, outdoor and sightseeing. Diversity management, intercultural, social inclusion, opportunities, communications and relationships building. Entertainment, sports, active and healthy living, lifestyles and livelihoods field trip, excursion or tour. For Persons with Special Needs, Disabilities, Reduced Mobility and Physically or Mobility Challenged. It is organized and hosted by Kra Integrated Solutions Ltd (KIS Travel), a Ghana based startup Social Enterprise (SE) free of charge.

On every September 27, World Tourism Day.

As part of national, international, social and humanitarian responsibility, purpose, impact and values creation activities to celebrate United Nations (UN) World Tourism Day. By doing something and/or practically and actively engaged in a meaningful, laudable, desirable, valuable, worthwhile, commendable and justifiable public, civic, corporate, group and/or personal social and humanitarian responsibility, purpose, values and impact creation activities and experiences.

As a Tourism, Travel and Hospitality, Events Management and Organizing Social Enterprise (SE), the motivation or inspiration to conceptualize, develop and introduce “Challenged Expedition”, emanated from the organization’s deep rooted passions, zeal, enthusiasm and commitments. To help bring into national, international and social limelight, focus and attention, some of the critical pervasive, emerging and systemic challenges, barriers and issues affecting Persons with Special Needs, Disabilities, Reduced Mobility and Physically or Mobility Challenged within Ghana. Through the strategic domestic, national, international and social appeal and strength of the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality industry.

All the conceptualization and design research, consultations, analysis and implementation guidelines done relative to "Challenged Expedition", was to develop a program in line with the organization’s deep rooted beliefs and convictions in a cherished typical age-old Ghanaian charitable, philanthropic, social, cultural, humanitarian and economic development perspective, goodwill, generosity, compassionate and benevolence practices and ideals, that amplifies community sharing and inter-dependency.

Persons with Special Needs, Disabilities, Reduced Mobility and Physically or Mobility Challenged are among the poorest, needy, vulnerable, marginalized, underprivileged, deprived and minority groups in Ghana. They are often taken for granted segment within communities and society. And unfortunately, are predominantly confined to the periphery of economic, social, political, cultural, community, societal, family and developmental structures. Not surprisingly, the prevailing conditions exposes this group to and faces enormous, diverse and intrinsically intertwined pervasive, emerging and systemic human and minority rights challenges, difficulties, issues and/or barriers within Ghana.

These challenges, difficulties, issues and/or barriers include and not limited to those highlighted below:

  • Pervasive prejudices, stereotypes, glass ceilings and tokenism.
  • Aggravated social, cultural, economic and political exclusion and injustice.
  • Excruciating lack of opportunities for self-actualization, determination and development.
  • Systemic inequality, neglect, alienation, discrimination, stigmatization, bullying and victimization.
  • Horrific forms of sexual, domestic, marital and relationships violence, abuse, molestation, exploitation and rape.
  • Endemic poverty, illiteracy, lack of access to job or employment opportunities, education, health care and medical services.
  • Extremely pathetic mobility, buildings, transportation, public or private spaces and places, other facilities, amenities and infrastructure. Including and in particular, tourist sites, attractions, locations and other places of interest, official, social and community events, programs and activities accessibility.

This event was conceptualized, developed and rolled under Kra Integrated Solutions Ltd (KIS Travels') “Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta” initiative. The "Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta" initiative is a philanthropic and charitable social inclusion, diversity management, inter-personal, cultural and community engagement initiative under the organization’s people, community centered and inspired "Neighborhoods Empowerment and Sustainable Transformation (NEST)" project.

Thematically, the “Humanity Alive and Social Fiesta” initiative aims at periodically organizing and offering charitable and philanthropic events, programs and activities for grassroots, poor, needy, vulnerable, underprivileged, marginalized, minority and deprived people, groups and communities. The direct beneficiaries of such events, activities and programs are Children, Youth, Seniors (Elderly), and in particular, Persons with Special Needs, Disabilities, Reduced Mobility and Physically or Mobility Challenged.

Kra Integrated Solutions Ltd (KIS Travel) officially launched, organized and hosted the maiden annual “Challenged Expedition” in 2018.

Thirty (30) Persons with Special Needs, Disabilities, Reduced Mobility and Physically or Mobility Challenged benefited from the maiden "Challenged Expedition".

The beneficiaries were selected or invited from the Greater Accra Region, Kasoa Township and its catchment areas within the Ewutu Senya East Municipal Authority in the Central Region of Ghana. The selection or invitation was conducted through the Ghana Federation for the Disabled (GFD) and other relevant stakeholders.

These beneficiaries, were taken on a purposeful educational, leisure, recreation, outdoor and sightseeing. Diversity management, intercultural, social inclusion, opportunities, communications and relationships building. Entertainment, sports, active and healthy living, lifestyles and livelihoods field trip, excursion or tour. To two of Ghana's premier tourist sites, attractions and places of interest, the Kakum National Conservation Park and Cape Coast Castle.

All expenses pertaining to this event was fully paid for by Kra Integrated Solutions Ltd (KIS Travel). This year, and in all subsequent years, we are focused to substantially increase the number of beneficiaries of “Challenged Expedition 2019” depending on the availability of funds.

The second edition “Challenged Expedition 2019”, will take place on World Tourism Day, Friday, September 27th, 2019 with a visit to the magnificent Boti Water Falls near Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
